In 1888 south-west Sheffield was enjoying a housing boom, with many suburban homes being built for the middle classes. Leafy streets and respectable gardens appealed to those who longed to live in the country but had to work in the city. Many of the rooms in these properties were graced by splendid, intricate floor tiling that was a feature of most Victorian homes, and it was this look that Nora asked us to recreate in her hallway.
